At Daguragu, Prime Minister Gough Whitlam handed deeds to Vincent Lingiari and symbolically poured soil into his hand. The ceremony followed the Gurindji walk-off and prolonged campaigning. The return of part of their country connected a workplace struggle with land ownership, demonstrating that the challenge to racialized exploitation included reclaiming the territory on which it operated.
