Ku Klux Klan and Nazi participants attacked an antiracist demonstration in Greensboro, killing five people. Organizers had connected opposition to white supremacy with labour organizing in the region. The massacre and the subsequent struggles for accountability raised questions about racist violence, police conduct and the treatment of radical movements. Community efforts later insisted on confronting this history publicly.
