Colonial police kill striking workers at Pidjiguiti

← Back to Dashboard
📅 3 August 1959 📍 Guinea-Bissau

Workers at Bissau’s Pidjiguiti docks struck over wages and faced lethal police repression. The massacre became a reference point in the struggle against Portuguese colonial rule. It exposed the connection between labour exploitation and coercive imperial authority; workers’ demands were political challenges to the institutions controlling their livelihoods.
