Anti-pass protesters face lethal repression at Sharpeville and Langa

← Back to Dashboard
📅 21 March 1960 📍 South Africa

The PAC’s anti-pass campaign called on people to leave passes behind and present themselves for arrest. Police killed 69 people at Sharpeville and also fired on protesters at Langa. Demonstrators challenged a system controlling African movement and labour; state violence defended the institutions enforcing that system.
