Black ministers and activists met in Atlanta on 10โ11 January to coordinate nonviolent campaigns following Montgomery. Further meetings consolidated the organization, later named the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Independent Black churches supplied organizing resources, linking local resistance to a regional challenge against institutions enforcing segregation.
