Colonial authorities arrest the Big Six after the Accra unrest

← Terug naar het dashboard
📅 12 Maart 1948 📍 Ghana

The colonial governor ordered the arrest of six leading United Gold Coast Convention figures after unrest following the veterans’ shootings. The detained leaders became known as the Big Six. Their detention illustrates how colonial rule used executive repression against nationalist organizing, rather than granting colonized people equal control over public institutions.
