The General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. It defined crimes against protected groups and obligations to prevent and punish them. Antiracist activists later used this framework to challenge systematic violence. Adoption created a legal instrument rather than an immediate end to colonial violence or racial persecution.
