Amnesty International welcomed Sri Lanka’s decision to end forced cremation of COVID-19 victims. It credited the sustained struggle of bereaved families, activists and Muslim community members for restoring the possibility of dignified burial. Amnesty also warned against replacing one form of religious discrimination with another through a proposed face-veil ban.
