Community physicians challenge the justification for compulsory cremation

← Back to Dashboard
📅 31 December 2020 📍 Sri Lanka

The College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka issued a position statement opposing claims that burial of COVID-19 victims would spread the virus through groundwater. It supported allowing families to choose burial or cremation under health guidelines. The medical intervention challenged the scientific rationale used to deny Muslim burial rites and strengthened the campaign against compulsory cremation.
