📅 3 March 2020 📍 India

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights sought to intervene as a third party in the Supreme Court litigation over India’s Citizenship Amendment Act. The application raised questions about equality and international protections for migrants, including refugees. India objected to outside intervention. The step supported scrutiny of the law’s exclusion of Muslims; it was not a Supreme Court ruling invalidating the Act.
