Sikh volunteers founded the Sikh Coalition on the night of 11 September as attacks against Sikh Americans began. The organization’s history describes an emergency effort to secure protection, legal help and a public voice. Organizing against that violence created possibilities for solidarity without erasing the distinct Sikh faith and community.
