← Back to Dashboard
📅 13 June 1996 📍 Canada

Governor General Roméo LeBlanc issued the proclamation designating 21 June each year as National Aboriginal Day. It recognized First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures and contributions. The measure placed Indigenous presence in the official commemorative calendar; symbolic recognition remained distinct from the redistribution of land or the implementation of self-government.
