📅 28 Mei 1990 📍 Ecuador

An occupation of Santo Domingo church in Quito helped open the mobilization that developed into the June Indigenous uprising. Communities demanded land, dignity and recognition of Indigenous nationalities. Their organizing challenged an order that treated Indigenous peoples as subordinate and asserted collective authority in shaping the state.
