The international racial-discrimination convention enters into force

The International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination became legally binding for its initial states parties. It required action against racial discrimination and established international supervision. Emerging from the era of decolonization, the treaty offered a tool for challenging discriminatory institutions. Its entry into force did not itself guarantee implementation or end racial domination.
