Aboriginal pastoral workers begin the Pilbara strike

← Back to Dashboard
📅 1 May 1946 📍 Australia

Aboriginal workers began coordinated strike action on pastoral stations in the Pilbara. Clancy McKenna and Dooley Bin Bin helped organize the struggle for pay and better conditions. Later walk-offs and independent camps strengthened resistance. The campaign challenged an economic system that depended on restricting Indigenous workers’ freedom and undervaluing their labour.
