Bussa’s rebellion challenges plantation slavery

Enslaved men and women launched a carefully organized rebellion in Barbados. Leaders used plantation networks to coordinate resistance. Although colonial forces defeated the uprising, participants’ actions challenged the idea that the plantation order could continue without opposition.
