The ANC held its 113th anniversary gathering at Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, where party president Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the annual address. The statement placed the party’s liberation history alongside its acknowledged organisational crisis after the 2024 election. It called for renewal and a renewed focus on local government, water, economic conditions and public trust. Khayelitsha’s history as a township shaped by apartheid spatial planning gave the gathering a setting where the movement’s liberation claims could be measured against continuing unequal access to land, infrastructure and opportunity.
