The ANC held its Siyanqoba campaign rally at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg four days before voting. President Ramaphosa urged supporters to vote for the party and presented the event as a demonstration of campaign strength. The rally was a public performance of the liberation movement’s claim to continue leading transformation. Its appeal took place against a backdrop of falling electoral support, high unemployment and dissatisfaction with public services.
