After meeting virtually on 27–28 June, the ANC National Executive Committee issued a statement on the pandemic’s social and economic effects. It said COVID-19 intensified poverty, inequality and unemployment, and linked racism in South Africa to the enduring legacies of colonialism and apartheid. The NEC postponed the National General Council, provincial and regional conferences, and branch general meetings because of public-health restrictions. The decision affected members’ ability to meet and participate in internal party processes.
