The Electoral Commission declared the ANC the winner with 57.5% of the national vote and 230 of 400 National Assembly seats, its lowest national share since 1994. The party retained a majority and won eight provincial legislatures, but lost support compared with 2014. The ANC described the result as a renewed mandate; the decline also registered voter dissatisfaction with the party’s record and the persistence of material inequalities after liberation.
