The ANC held its 105th anniversary event in Orlando, Soweto, and named 2017 the year of Oliver Reginald Tambo, who had led the organisation during exile. The NEC statement called for unity and renewed member participation as the party prepared for its 54th National Conference. It also noted that declining electoral support required the ANC to hear public criticism and address its distance from communities.
