The Electoral Commission announced the final local-election results: the ANC won 62.0 percent of the vote, 5,633 council seats and 198 councils. Turnout was 57.6 percent. The results confirmed the ANC’s continued strength but also made local representation a test of whether the governing movement could address persistent service inequalities and respond to community protest.
