The ANC’s third National General Council (NGC) closed after four days of discussion in Durban. Between national conferences, this forum reviewed the organisation’s direction and government’s progress. Its agenda included organisational renewal, gender, leadership culture, economic transformation and the movement’s relationship to communities. The NGC took place as the ANC moved from liberation movement into a long-governing party, raising questions about accountability, internal democracy and delivery to poor Black communities still living with apartheid’s unequal distribution of land and wealth.
