Voters chose a new National Assembly in South Africa’s second national election open across racial classifications. The ANC won 66.35 percent of valid votes and 266 of 400 seats, one seat short of a two-thirds majority. The result renewed the party’s mandate while the parliamentary threshold required constitutional change to continue through cross-party processes.
