The ANC’s 49th National Conference opened in Bloemfontein after its electoral victory and formation of the Government of National Unity. It was the first ANC conference held while the organisation led the national government. Delegates considered the state of the organisation, government policy, reconstruction and the movement’s transition from liberation organisation to governing party.
