← Back to Dashboard
Organization history 📅 7 December 1993 📍 South Africa

The multi-party Transitional Executive Council met for the first time in Cape Town. It adopted resolutions to establish the Independent Electoral Commission and the Independent Media Commission, giving opposition organisations a role in preparing the election and addressing media conditions. The ANC had pressed for transitional oversight because the apartheid government was itself a contestant in the coming election.
