← Back to Dashboard
Organization history 📅 18 November 1993 📍 South Africa

After prolonged multi-party negotiations, representatives agreed on the text of an interim constitution in the early hours of 18 November. The agreement established the framework for universal-suffrage elections, a government of national unity and a Constitutional Assembly to draft a final constitution. The settlement opened a path away from white minority rule while postponing major constitutional questions to the elected assembly.
