← Back to Dashboard
Organization history 📅 17 April 1954 📍 South Africa

At its founding conference in Johannesburg, the Federation of South African Women adopted the Women's Charter. Delegates brought together women's organisations and activists across racial and political lines, articulating demands for equal rights in work, family life, education and citizenship. FEDSAW was an organisation in its own right, with a broad base that included the ANC Women's League; its programme joined opposition to apartheid with women's equality.
