ANC convenes allies to plan a campaign against discriminatory laws

← Back to Dashboard
Organization history 📅 29 July 1951 📍 South Africa

The ANC invited the South African Indian Congress, African People's Organisation and Franchise Action Council to a Johannesburg meeting about coordinated resistance. The meeting planned a mass campaign if the government refused to repeal discriminatory laws. The ANC and Indian Congress later formed a Joint Planning Council. The alliance was cooperative but not frictionless: the APO did not attend, and the Franchise Action Council joined as an observer.
