← Back to Dashboard
Organization history 📅 15 December 1935 📍 South Africa

At a Bloemfontein convention chaired by D.D.T. Jabavu, about 500 delegates from African political, religious, professional and community organisations debated the Hertzog Bills and African grievances. Delegates resolved to establish the All African Convention (AAC), using a national coalition to pursue African rights and boycotts. The convention ran 15-18 December. ANC president Pixley ka Isaka Seme attended; the AAC was a broader formation, not an ANC body.
