ANC calls for passive resistance against pass laws

← Back to Dashboard
Organization history 📅 27 June 1931 📍 South Africa

The ANC published a statement in Umteteli wa Bantu calling for passive resistance to pass laws. African movement was being policed through documentation requirements, labour controls and restrictions on urban residence. The statement shows the Congress trying to rebuild a national political role after organisational decline, while pass resistance also drew on local campaigns and worker organising beyond ANC structures.
