Pixley ka Isaka Seme calls for a united African political organisation

← Back to Dashboard
Organization history 📅 24 October 1911 📍 South Africa

In an article in Imvo Zabantsundu, lawyer and activist Pixley ka Isaka Seme proposed a “Native Union” to unite Africans across regional and political divisions. This call came after the 1910 Union constitutionally concentrated political power in a white minority and amid laws that restricted African landholding and skilled employment. The proposal helped build the case for a national organisation, though early Congress leadership largely drew on educated African elites.
