Mandela holds his first press conference as a free man

Mandela held a press conference at Bishopscourt in Cape Town and then flew to Johannesburg. His first public day of freedom combined political communication with a return to family and movement networks. The international press attention could make him a global symbol, but he continued to frame the struggle as one led by the people and the ANC.
