The Commonwealth EPG met Mandela again at Pollsmoor’s guest house. He argued that negotiations required an end to military repression and a process involving the ANC. On 19 May, after South African forces attacked neighbouring states, the mission was cut short. The visit demonstrates both the global reach of anti-apartheid diplomacy and the limits imposed by the regime’s regional military policy.
