Final UN annex records destroyed installations across the offshore production zone

High-capacity, high-pressure pumps and drives required costly imported equipment, the annex explained. Once equipment was available, pumping stations could restart in weeks or a couple of months,...

After attacks, pipelines on the northbound Abadan route were rerouted and buried in two major areas. Station equipment was placed underground or shielded with sand-filled concrete blocks; these...

Rebuilding had begun at Naftshahr, where the production facility was reportedly dismantled and taken across the Iraqi border. Iran aimed to restore 30,000 barrels per day, with crude destined for...

The mission considered northern-field reconstruction estimates generous because major pumping equipment and drives had already been replaced and included in expenditure to date. Its assessment...

The annex reported offshore production across five areas at 242,000 barrels per day, compared with 870,000 before the war. This regional production comparison is distinct from the capacity or recovery...

The annex reported little offshore reconstruction during the war because marine activities and vessels were vulnerable. Wells were plugged with cement where possible to protect them; this protective...

The mission estimated offshore damage remained about as extensive as during the war, at 50–60 percent. It considered cost estimates generous even allowing for specialized equipment and marine...

The annex reported nearly 500 million barrels of light-fuel imports during 1980–1988, implying over $5 billion in hard-currency outlays. Imports offset disrupted refinery supply; this spending is...

Iran told the mission that wartime rationing masked actual fuel demand and imports might otherwise have exceeded 400,000 barrels per day. The annex presented this as a government counterfactual, not...

The annex described a strategy to maintain about 400,000 barrels per day at Abadan and develop matching secondary-processing units. Longer-term plans were unclear; possible restoration of full...
