UNIIMOG completes its mission

Iran’s foreign minister visited Baghdad for talks on outstanding bilateral issues and the Gulf crisis. Diplomatic contact did not itself settle every issue left by the 1980–88 war.

Resolution 676 continued UNIIMOG’s mandate to monitor the ceasefire and withdrawal. Iran’s border security remained subject to international observation.

MEES reported Société Générale arranging a $2.2 billion loan for Iran’s petrochemical sector. An arranged credit facility should not be read as proof that the full sum was disbursed.

A British parliamentary answer outlined short-term export credit cover for Iran subject to specified terms. Medium-term cover remained conditional.

The United States filed preliminary objections. These challenged the Court’s ability to hear Iran’s case.

Iran announced an agreement to resume relations with Saudi Arabia. This records the announcement rather than assigning every later normalization step to the same day.

The Court set a deadline for Iran’s written response to the preliminary objections.

The Secretary-General informed the Council that a team led by Abdulrahim Abby Farah would study war damage and reconstruction in Iran. The mission implemented paragraph 7 of Resolution 598.

Finance Minister Mohsen Nourbakhsh described negotiations for foreign credits to support investment. The reported target did not mean that all proposed financing had already been secured.
