UN assessment strengthens calls for Uyghur rights and accountability

The UN human-rights office published its assessment of Xinjiang, documenting serious violations affecting Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim groups. It concluded that the extent of arbitrary and discriminatory detention might constitute international crimes, particularly crimes against humanity. Publication gave rights advocates an authoritative basis for further demands; it was not a criminal-court conviction.
