Ardern’s parliamentary response asserts Muslim belonging

← Back to Dashboard
📅 19 March 2019 📍 New Zealand

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern addressed Parliament after the Christchurch mosque attacks. She affirmed solidarity with Muslim families, described support for victims and rejected giving notoriety to the attacker. The response insisted that Muslims belonged within the national community. It was a public and governmental response to anti-Muslim terror, not evidence that racism had been eliminated from New Zealand.
