People of colour convene a summit on environmental justice

The First National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit opened in Washington, running through 27 October. Delegates developed 17 principles connecting environmental protection with self-determination, workplace safety and community participation. Their analysis challenged the unequal distribution of pollution and linked ecological harm to colonialism and racial power.
