📅 16 November 1990 📍 United States

It addressed Native American human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects and cultural patrimony held by covered institutions, and protections on federal and tribal lands. The legislation challenged museum and research practices that had subordinated Indigenous authority over ancestors and cultural heritage.
