Police, supported by military personnel, ended the 506-day occupation of Takaparawhau and arrested 222 protesters. Buildings established by the occupiers were demolished. The eviction exposed the force behind state control of disputed ancestral land. Although the occupation was physically removed, the campaign continued to make Ngāti Whātua dispossession a national issue and strengthened demands for land restitution.
