A convention opened at Edendale near Pietermaritzburg, continuing until 10 July, to organize Black solidarity beyond university campuses. It brought Black Consciousness into a wider political structure. The initiative sought to strengthen collective confidence and independent organization among people subordinated by apartheid, challenging both state power and the internalization of racial inferiority.
