Four Aboriginal activists set up an embassy opposite Parliament House to demand land rights. Calling their protest an embassy exposed the contradiction of being treated as outsiders on their own land. The campaign linked the continuing effects of colonization with demands for political authority, territorial restitution and recognition of Aboriginal peoples' collective rights.
