Equatorial Guinea becomes independent from Spain

← Back to Dashboard
📅 12 October 1968 📍 Equatorial Guinea

Equatorial Guinea gained independence, ending Spanish colonial sovereignty. The transfer removed foreign colonial administration and established a new national state. Formal independence changed the source of governing authority; it did not by itself guarantee popular control, protection of rights or the dismantling of inherited economic inequalities.
