Botswana becomes independent

📅 30 September 1966 📍 Botswana

Botswana gained independence from Britain, replacing the Bechuanaland Protectorate with a sovereign state under Seretse Khama. The change ended external political administration. Its location beside white-minority regimes made independence part of a wider regional contest over sovereignty and racial power, while economic dependence remained a major challenge.
