Yolngu petitioners challenged decisions allowing bauxite mining on their land without adequate consultation. The first bark petition was tabled in the House of Representatives, with another following on 28 August. Combining Indigenous visual forms and parliamentary petitioning, the campaign asserted land rights and Indigenous authority within a state that discounted them.
