Dengue immunization gains a further option

A news release described a March vaccination campaign using Men5CV against five meningococcal groups.

The article explains why vaccination was undertaken in affected Nigerian states.

Men5CV can protect against several causes of meningococcal meningitis, depending on the group.

The entry is dated to WHO’s 12 April report; the initial rollout took place in March.

WHO prequalified the TAK-003 dengue vaccine on 10 May, later reporting the decision.

The vaccine is recommended for children in particular high-transmission settings, not for every population.

The decision was one step in dengue prevention alongside mosquito control and clinical care.

New regional guidance outlined ways to improve management of sickle cell disease.
