Modern scholarship revises inherited biographies

Kerala-school work shows that infinite-series techniques developed before the standard European priority narratives.

The authors treat missing names not as accidental gaps but as outcomes of how mathematical history has been written.

The paper gathers recent scholarship on Madhava's location, works and place within the Kerala school.

Locating Madhava helps connect texts to teachers, disciples, astronomical practice and regional institutions.

The biography emphasizes computational procedures rather than reducing Madhava to a precursor of European calculus.

The 1 September 2024 article follows numerals, zero and mathematical astronomy from India through Baghdad into Europe.

The article presents his 628 treatise as a major turning point in treating zero as a number within arithmetic.

His approximation of pi, sine methods and computational astronomy are placed beside better-known Greek achievements.

It argues that British education still underrepresents the Indian foundations of numerical methods used across the modern world.

The paper translates Sanskrit verses and compares four procedures used to compute inverse-sine values.
