Election Commission confirms the 2014 election date

The Electoral Commission confirmed that national and provincial elections would take place on 7 May 2014, following the President’s announcement. The date began the final stage of campaign preparation for political parties, including the ANC. The election came in the twentieth year of constitutional democracy, amid public debate over whether political equality had produced substantive economic and social equality.
