Mbeki begins a second presidential term

Thabo Mbeki was inaugurated for a second term at the Union Buildings after the ANC’s 2004 electoral victory. The inauguration renewed the party’s control of national government. Public debate continued over the pace of redistribution, employment creation, land reform and the government’s economic direction.
